Short Term Health Insurance (major medical)

Short Term Medical Insurance used to be for those who needed temporary health insurance coverage after losing a job or graduating college.  That may still be the case, but today many people are using Short Term Medical Insurance as their primary insurance plan. Individuals and families can now purchase up to 36 months (3 12-month policies sold all together) of short term insurance that will cover them for a fraction of the cost of an Obamacare / Affordable Care Act plan. If the individual or family stays healthy, they can purchase another 36-months of coverage after the previous terms expires. The main benefit of this 12-month solution is that it guarantees that you will stay covered throughout the entire year, and the insurance company can't drop you if you get a medical condition, which allows you to use Blue Cross of WY as a backup plan, in case you need to jump back on with them come the next January 1. So you get the good rates while you're healthy, but if you need a plan that covers pre-existing conditions, you can get back on that plan with no gap in coverage.

Here is an example of the prices of short-term vs Obamacare: If you are a husband/wife around 62 years old, you'll be looking at paying between $2000-$3000/mo (yes you read that right) with Blue Cross of WY for a high deductible plan, but a short-term plan will be in the $400-$600/mo range! And then you can bundle your high deductible plan with "supplemental accident" insurance and "critical illness" insurance which will help meet deductibles / out of pocket max's on your plan. So you get a major-medical plan with a great PPO Network (Aetna) and you also get the benefits of those supplemental products, that can help meet your deductible for you, all at a fraction of the cost of Obamacare. It's a great strategy that is working very well for many of our clients in Wyoming. And the best part is: it gets you far far away from Obamacare!

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

The next option for individual health insurance is called "hospital indemnity" insurance. It pays you CASH for medical bills you incur. For example, National General has a plan that pays up to $3000/day for hospitalization, $90/day for doctor visits, $300/test for diagnostics, $500 ground and $3000 air ambulance, and pays generous amounts for outpatient surgery, and more. This is a renewable plan, so you don't have to worry about it running out. This product is quickly becoming a popular alternative to Obamacare.
